Frequently Asked Questions

ARL displays all 1,800 + UK quoted companies and their retained Corporate Advisers.

These companies are based in the UK and overseas, with ordinary shares, or equivalent, listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Quoted companies and their Advisers are updated using primary sources. Company news releases to the London Stock Exchange are constantly monitored, together with statutory reports and press coverage. To further establish the correct relationships, all advisers are sent a quarterly client update request. Any client additions have to be validated by the company. This methodology is consistently applied and ensures that the quoted companies ultimately determine which advisers are linked to their record. No relationship is listed unless it has been approved by both the client and the adviser.

Rankings Guides

We publish two quarterly Rankings Guides – The Corporate Advisers Rankings Guide and the AIM Advisers Rankings Guide. These Guides display the much publicised client rankings tables for Auditors, Brokers, Financial Advisers/NOMADS, Financial PR Advisers, Law Firms and Registrars. These rankings display the number of quoted clients that each Adviser has in the various FTSE indices and in the eight main FTSE sectors. All published rankings and statistics are compiled by Adviser Rankings Ltd using our proprietary database.

For the rankings tables, a single point is awarded to reflect a confirmed client relationship, regardless of whether it is a sole or a joint appointment. Please note that a “(J)” after an advisers name denotes a joint appointment with another adviser.

FTSE Indices – used in our rankings

FTSE 100 – This index is comprised of the largest 100 stocks listed on the London Stock Exchange in terms of market capitalisation and represents approximately 81% of the total market by definition.

FTSE 250 – This index is comprised of the next 250 stocks listed on the London Stock Exchange in terms of market capitalisation. This currently represents approximately 15% of UK market capitalisation.

FTSE Small Cap – This index is comprised of companies with a market capitalisation below the FTSE 250, but above a fixed limit. This currently represents approximately 2% of UK market capitalisation.

FTSE Fledgling – This index consists of all UK companies which qualify for inclusion in the UK Index Series but are too small to be included in the FTSE All-Share Index.

AIM Market – All AIM listed companies quoted on the London Stock Exchange irrespective of size and domicile.

FTSE AIM 100 – This index comprises most of the largest 100 companies quoted on AIM irrespective of where they are registered. Eligibility for inclusion depends on liquidity as well as size, which therefore may exclude some of the larger AIM companies.

FTSE AIM UK 50 – This index comprises 50 of the largest companies quoted on AIM that are registered in the UK. Again, the stocks must be liquid to qualify.

SECTORS – The ARL Rankings Guides and our real-time data service display Adviser client rankings by the seven main FTSE industry sectors: Basic Materials, Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples, Energy, Financials and Real Estate, Health Care, Industrials and Technology.
